Letters Accepting or Declining Offers

In writing a letter of acceptance, it is common to restate the conditions of employment agreed upon, particularly because they may have changed in the negotiating process. When declining an offer, thank the search committee and mention how much you enjoyed meeting them and visiting their campus. Academia is a small world and you never know if one of these people will be in a position to help your career in the future. More on responding to offers, including samples, can be found in Chapter 16, “Job Offers, Negotiations, Acceptances, and Rejections.”
